Crashing Waves

If ocean waves could tell their stories, what would it be? Could it be about the ships they met on voyage, or the birds that migrated across the oceans, the seashells and pearls that lie on the seabeds, or about the point where the oceans meet? I wonder how many miles the sea stretches and how far these waves travel before transiently crashing at a shore?

Fear: What Stands Between Us and Success

Fear is natural emotion that happens when we are afraid or threatened by someone or a situation. It also occurs when we feel outside our comfort zones. In situations where there may be a threat or danger, fear can be a positive emotion. However, fear can become quite crippling in situations where we are afraid of change and new surroundings. It can stop us to achieve our goals and keep us grounded in the same situation. Few ways in which fear might affect us are discussed below:

1. Fear of Not Coping

We don’t know our own potentials until we try something new and that requires a bit of courage. Most of us back off, thinking that this is not who we are because deep down we might believe that we can’t do it. It is not until we try that our confidence builds in our own abilities and our self belief changes about our own selves.

” You can learn anything in your life if you are willing to be a beginner. If you actually learn to like being a beginner, the whole world opens to you” Barbara Sher

2. Fear of Failure

Too often we are afraid of what might happen if we fail to achieve our goal. We get stuck thinking about the outcomes  in case we fail, we are afraid of the “I told you so” remarks from friends and family and the disappointments that comes with failure. To save ourselves from all this trouble, we don’t take on new projects and continue to trod on the road well traveled. If only we overcome this fear of failing, then we can begin to learn new things in life.

“Remember your dreams and fight for them. You must know what you want from life. There is just one thing that makes your dream become impossible: the fear of failure.” Paulo Coelho

3. Fear of Success

Success can be overwhelming and can throw us off balance if we are not well prepared to handle it and the challenges that comes with it. Fear of success can become grappling and can make us question how we see ourselves. For some, it can be difficult to view themselves as a sharp, successful person because we are too comfortable with our current image and place in life. To move up the ladder requires courage as well as hard work and more importantly a strong self belief in our abilities to get their.

“Because success is heavy, carries a responsibility with it, it is much easier to procrastinate and live on the “someday I’ll” philosophy.” Denis Waitley

4. Am I Worthy Enough?

This question makes us doubt our own worthiness to achieve something good. As we grow up we are told to dream but not too big, a vision that is slightly different from the norms is too often discouraged by those around us to keep us grounded. It becomes a learned behavior to doubt our worth to deserve better.

“I do believe that I deserve what I have. I don’t think I’m entitled to it. That’s a big difference.” Adam Levine
